12K Uphill Battle!

This past weekend I got to run with one of my very close friend.  She has been a support system since day one when I first started my first 5K back in February.  This is the 3rd Sunday in a row that I had participated in a race.  Last week I had done the Brazen 10k .. and this past Sunday was the Brisbane 12K.  I chose this race simply because I had already completed a 5K, 8K, and 10K ... the next race would be a 12K.  For everybody who is not familiar with the metric system .. a 12K is 7.45 miles.

The 7.45 mile run was on a paved road.  The first half of the run was uphill through mountains to the very top.  At first I thought I was not going to complete it ... since I have never really ran up a mountain before.  On race day .. it was very sunny .. but as soon as the elevation increased .. the fog was lingering.  I ran/walked and paced as best as I could .. but the very top of the mountain seemed never ending since I could not really see the road ahead of me.

I was one of the very last few runners along the course ... at times I felt I was just running by myself because the road was very quiet.  After a long grueling 1:34 .. I finally passed through the finish line.  Of course my friend was there to cheer me on.  We called this race an insane run simply because we basically went from the very bottom of the mountain .. to the very top.

My hips are feeling it today .. and boy do they hurt!
